The Manaus rug was designed to evoke the movement and ever-changing nature of the rainforest. The design features a harmonious balance of different textures, with short looped threads hidden by longer hanging yarns. This creates a sense of depth and movement, allowing the user to interact with the rug in a unique way.
The rug is made using the traditional Tibetan knot technique, with one hundred percent hand-spun silk. The silk yarns are hand-spun to create various thicknesses, giving the rug its three-dimensional effect. The yarns are then double-dipped dyed to achieve gradient tones and intensify the colors. During the weaving process, long and short threads are intermixed, adding even more variations and depth to the design.
The Manaus rug measures 2500mm in width and 3000mm in length. It was completed in April 2015 and is a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans who hand-wove it in India.
Michelle Evans, the designer behind the Manaus rug, has a passion for abstract textures and creating designs that go beyond traditional floor coverings. With over twenty years of experience as an interior designer, she set out to create rugs that were artistic and unique. The Manaus rug is a reflection of her artistic vision and her desire to challenge traditional design concepts.
The Manaus rug has garnered recognition and accolades in the design world. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2016, which recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. This award is a testament to the quality and innovation of the Manaus rug.
With its three-dimensional design and unique textures, the Manaus rug is not just a floor covering, but a piece of art that adds depth and movement to any space. It is a testament to the beauty and complexity of the rainforest, and a reminder of the importance of bringing nature into our everyday lives.
